Italy Falls to Canada in Women’s U20 Quarterfinals

Canada wrapped up the quarterfinal round of action on Wednesday at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship with a 25-2 win over Italy in Hong Kong, China
Canada has now made the semifinals in every edition of this event dating back to 1995. The top-seeded Canadians will take on the Japan, the No. 4 seed, on Thursday at 7 p.m. HKT at Mong Kok Stadium
Canada took care of its task early at the Hong Kong Football Club stadium with two goals within 90 seconds and five goals less than halfway through the quarter, ending the first period with a 9-0 lead.
Canada kept its offense flowing through halftime and added another seven goals in the second quarter.
Italy scored twice early in the second half with goals from Jami Macdonald and Charlotte Hogson.
Canada has boasted the best scoring defense in Hong Kong, allowing just eight goals through five wins. It was on display again as Canada completed the match allowing just those two shots the entire game. Beth Anderson was instrumental in ball control as well 23 wins on 31 draws.
The Canada attack filled the scoresheet with 12 players scoring goals and eight players scoring two or more. Jillian McNaughton posted two goals and one assist and was named the player of the match. Avery Morton tallied three goals and three assists and Lauren Black’s distribution was excellent with two goals and four assists.
Italy goalkeeper Matilde Crapanzano made eight saves.
Italy will be back in action in placement play on Thursday against England at 1:30 p.m. HKT.
